Roof Ice Damage

Winter storms or extreme temperature changes can cause a lot of damage to your roof. Issues like thermal shock and ice dams have the potential to cause leaks.

Thermal shock occurs when there is a sudden, drastic change in temperature and expansion or contraction occurs. This can cause shingles to warp, crack, or tear. If moisture gets into to even a tiny space, it can freeze and expand creating a larger gap for water intrusion. Ice dams are caused by areas of water or snow freezing and creating a space for water to pool. This occurs on the bottom edges of your roof. These ice dams can cause damage to your shingles and even your gutters. The standing water can back up under your shingles and cause leaks on your roof which can lead to damage to the decking and interior damage.

If you suspect that you have roof damage from winter storms or ice or have seen evidence of water damage in your home, call a professional roofing contractor like J-Conn Roofing to come out and do an inspection of your roof. Regular inspections of your roof help to discover issues that you may not be aware of so that you may have them repaired before additional damage can be done.
